The Invisible Wall (Neviditelná zeď)
Prague in the 1920s and 1930s was a center of European art and culture, radiating far beyond the borders of Czechoslovakia. Czech, German, and Jewish artists transformed the Vltava metropolis into a vibrant and multilingual “Babylon Prague.” On the surface, almost anything seemed possible, yet deep divides remained. Was there a real chance for mutual understanding, or were all hopes thwarted by an “invisible wall” between cultures?

Genre: Cultural-historical documentary
Applicant: Česká televize

Grant awarded: CZK 410,000
Ležáky
The year is 1954. A young woman arrests a former medical student during an illegal abortion attempt. Two investigators subsequently uncover evidence involving a member of the National Security Corps who had previously used his services. The man is arrested and interrogated, during which it is revealed that he comes from Ležáky. This fact intrigues the senior investigator so much that he begins questioning him further. Their conversation forms the central motif of the entire film.
The surviving policeman Zdeněk Hrdý is a real historical figure who survived the destruction of Ležáky and was arrested in the 1950s for an intentional criminal offense.
We gradually follow the historical developments and the characteristics of individual characters. Young Jan Pavliš arrives at the mill and becomes his rival in love. First encounters, first animosities. At the same time, a group of paratroopers flies in from England, fundamentally altering the life of this settlement.
We witness betrayal within one’s own family, love turning into hatred, cowardice leading to the deaths of the brave, and weakness giving rise to a hero. For the public, this may be the first revelation of the true informer responsible for the burning of Ležáky.

War of Salamanders
Who would have imagined twenty-five years ago that the discovery of an unknown species of newt in a hidden bay of a small, insignificant Javan island by Captain Vantoch of a Dutch trading ship would lead to the destruction of humankind? It would have required a vivid imagination—and yet it became reality. Humanity itself, aided by the rapidly growing newt population, brought about its own demise.
The newts appeared harmless, even charming, and later proved intelligent and industrious. They asked only for a little living space and food. A true blessing for humanity’s grand plans of unlimited economic growth. Yet the blind pursuit of prosperity and wealth led to a tragic end. Humanity—and all continents and life upon them—perished, and planet Earth returned to its primordial state. Once again, the planet is covered by a shallow sea ruled by a new civilization: the civilization of newts.

Non-Existent Country (Neexistující země)
Seven-year-old Masha finds herself in the middle of her parents’ collapsing marriage—her Russian mother Lena and Czech father Tomáš. While their Prague apartment turns into a battlefield of arguments and tense silences, the “Russian garden” from her mother’s bedtime stories remains the safest and most stable place in her imagination.
When her mother suggests traveling to Russia together, Masha eagerly agrees, excited to finally see the country she has imagined so often. But when she learns that her father opposes their departure, doubts begin to surface. A turning point comes when Masha realizes her mother may not be planning to return.
Throughout the film, the girl confronts situations that gradually dismantle her idealized image of Russia. True home, however, is formed by relationships between loved ones—and these can endure even when everything else changes.
